Lleithyr-Meadow-Touring-Caravan-Site

After major investment from the club the site underwent a complete refurbishment of the Toilet Block, Reception Building and Wardens’ Pitches and also an upgrade to the potable water system.

As part of the site improvements, The Caravan Club wanted to install a replacement sewage treatment plant and to upgrade the existing foul drainage system.

The proposal was to install a new HiPAF (SAF biozone) sewage treatment plant to take the existing foul waste from the Toilet Block. This was to render 4 existing Cesspools redundant.

In addition proposed laying 300m of new gravity drainage to enable all foul waste from the Reception and Wardens’ Pitches and grey water from the Service Points to be treated by the new HiPAF plant. So as to connect two of the lower Service Points we also installed a Flygt Compit pumping station to pump grey waste water up to the HiPAF system for treatment. This provided maximum treatment of site-effluent whilst at the same time conserving capital investment.

The proposed solution was to enable all sewage effluent to be treated onsite in an environmentally sustainable and process efficient manner. This would alleviate the need for regular emptying by sewage tanker which offered significant cost benefits to the client.

The site conditions were challenging (the ground was predominantly sandy with some rock present at depth; high groundwater was also present requiring pumping throughout the works) so the Primary Settlement Tank 5.35m long x 2.86m wide x 3.5m deep and the BioZone/Final Settlement Tank 7.95m long x 2.86m wide x 3.5m deep required sheet piling and edge protection. All excavated material was removed from site. The works were completed on time and within budget.

Works were carried out over a period of 3 weeks in accordance with a site specific method statement and risk assessment. No accidents were reported during the works.
